WASHINGTON - The American University women's
basketball team defeated Colgate, 73-46, in Patriot League action
at Bender Arena Saturday to extend its winning streak to six games.
The win, paired with an Army loss to Lehigh, puts the Eagles in a
three-way tie atop the conference standings with the Black Knights
and Holy Cross.
American (13-12, 7-3 PL) was in control of the contest from the
tip-off, hitting its first seven buckets and 10 of 15, including
five of eight from behind the arc, to jump out to a 25-6 advantage.

Jackson scored 14 first half points, including four treys, to
give the Eagles a 38-19 lead going into the locker room.
In the second half, AU led by as many as 33 points, up 65-32 at
the 6:10 mark, courtesy of a Michelle Kirk
jumper in the paint. Colgate (1-24, 0-10 PL) was never able to get
any closer than 19 points in the second half.
The Eagles got double-digit scoring efforts from Jackson, who
scored all 14 of her points in the first half, Liz Hayes and Stephanie
N'Garsanet. Hayes had 13 points, including two three-point
baskets, to move her within 15 treys of the career record of 147,
held by Kari Gaskins. N'Garsanet tallied 12 points and a team-high
six rebounds.
Colgate was led by Laura Grimm, who finished with 14 points and
picked up five boards and added four assists off the bench for the
Raiders.
AU will look to stretch its winning streak to seven on Wednesday
when they travel to Army. Army took a 59-49 decision from the
Eagles at Bender Arena on Jan. 23. That game marks the last time
American lost a game. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
