WASHINGTON - After claiming its
seventh-consecutive Patriot League Regular Season Championship, the
American University volleyball team returned to the court Saturday
to defeat Lafayette, 3-0, in its final tune up before the
conference tournament. The victory improves American to 24-7
overall and 13-1 in the conference while Lafayette falls to 14-18
overall and 4-10 against PL opponents.
AU's three-game sweep of the Leopards came 30-26, 30-21, 30-15.
11 different Eagles scored points in the win as American out hit
Lafayette, .281 to .120.

Sukaj led the American squad in scoring, notching 18 kills, one
ace, two block assists and chipped in seven digs on defense. Christina
Nash dished out 21 Eagle assists, hit for a .833 percentage
with five kills on six attempts and also tallied two solo blocks
and one block assist. American's imposing middle blocker duo of Claire Recht
and Chelsa
Brooks led the team in blocks with four total apiece and
combined for 15 kills with eight and seven respectively.
American will host the PL Tournament inside Bender Arena Nov.
16-17. Joining the Eagles in the tournament will be Colgate, Army
and Navy. AU and the Midshipmen will face each other in one first
round match on Friday with the Raiders and Black Knights squaring
off in the other. The winner of each match Friday will meet
Saturday at 7 p.m. to crown the 2007 PL Tournament Champion and
decide who will be the conference's representative in the NCAA
Tournament.
