WASHINGTON -
Five Eagles registered over five kills as the American University women's volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 win over Holy Cross Friday night in Bender Arena.
It took most of the first game for the Eagles to get in a rhythm as they edged the Crusaders for the 30-25 win. From that point on though, AU controlled the match with 30-17 and 30-22 game wins for the match.
Both the upperclassmen and first-year players had big nights to help lead the team to win. Senior captain Elizabeth Maloney (Toronto, Ontario/Richview C.I.) had a match-high 11 kills and junior Chelsa Brooks (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) had eight kills as well as two solo blocks. Freshman Ann Recht ( Canby, Ore./La Salle) had six kills with no errors on nine attempts and libero Ivana Cebakova (Brno, Czech Republic/Ludvika Danka) moved up to the front row for part of the match as well, slamming a career-high seven kills at over .500 percentage and 12 digs. In total, American hit over .300 for the match, while holding the visitors to just a .045 percentage as well.
The Eagles return to Bender tomorrow night where they'll host Patriot League rival Army at 7 p.m.
