FAIRFAX, Va. -- American University scored two second half goals to pull out a 3-1 victory over the Patriots of George Mason. Sophomore Gordon Templeman (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) broke a 1-1 tie early in the second half when he collected a Salvatore Caccavale (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) pass, and knocked it past George Mason's John O'Hara at 53:37.

It was the first two goals of the season for Templeman, and the first multiple-goal game of his Eagle career. He scored the first goal of the game when Peter Philipakos (Glen Cove, N.Y./Glen Cove) took a corner kick. Templeman collected the kick and booted it 28 yards into the upper part of the net.

Philipakos put the game out of reach when he took a pass from freshman Jonathan Barbarin (San Diego, Calif./University of San Diego H.S.), and beat the Mason defense for AU's third goal of the game.

George Mason had tied the game up at 1 in the first half when sophomore Steve Alabi scored his seventh goal of the season at 42:48. Juniors Karim Manneh and Matt Mendy were each credited with an assist.

AU goalie Thomas Myers (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) picked up six saves and his third victory of the season. He faced 12 shots on the afternoon. George Mason's O'Hara notched three saves and faced 12 shots as well.

The Eagles were whistled for 19 fouls, including 14 in the second half. The Patriots managed 17 fouls, with 10 coming in the second half. Both teams had 12 shots and the Eagles held the advantage on corner kicks at 6-2. Three yellow cards were issued on the afternoon, with AU picking up two of them.
