WASHINGTON - American University outshot the visiting Lafayette Leopards in a men's soccer match today, 16-14, but the Leopards defeated the Eagles 4-0 in American's final game of the 2003 season. Lafayette's Ralph Rapuana scored goals in the first and second halves to lead the way. Rapuanoa also assisted on the Leopards first goal, when Jamie Mullarkey slammed home a cross 15:16 into the game. Mullarkey added a goal and assist, while goaltender Jay Freedman made five saves in 90 minutes to get the shutout. Ryan McCaughey also scored for the Leopards, and Chris Doney and Joe Starapoli added assists. The Eagles were led by Andrew Herman (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside), who fired seven shots. American finishes its season 7-9-1 overall, and 2-5 in the Patriot League.
