WASHINGTON - American University men's soccer scored twice in the first 18:26 and hung on the rest of the way to defeat Army, 2-0, in a Patriot League contest. Just over four minutes into the game, junior forward Andrew Herman (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) split the Army defense after a 30-yard run and swung the ball left to a streaking Garth Juckem (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Jesuit), who rolled a hard shot just inside the right post. In the 19th minute, Herman tallied a goal of his own off a long ball by junior defender Charlie Koniver (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep). Herman received the feed at the box, deked a defender and beat the Army goaltender with a low shot to the wide side. American used its offense as defense throughout the game, spending most of its time on the Army half of the field, firing 27 shots. Herman had 12 shots, eight on goal. Army goaltender Matt Wesmiller kept the Black Knights in the game with 14 saves. With the win, the Eagles improve to 7-8-1 overall, 2-4 in the Patriot League. The Black Knights fall to 3-9-4 overall, 0-4-2 in the Patriot League. American returns to action Saturday, Nov. 8 versus Lafayette at Reeves Field.
