WASHINGTON (AP) - Glenn Stokes scored 24 points and made four 3-pointers to help American snap its three-game losing streak with a 70-53 win over Navy Wednesday night.
Stokes, who has led American (6-9, 1-1 Patriot League) in scoring eight times this season, scored 13 points in the first half and hit a 3-pointer during a 13-5 second half run that helped the Eagles gradually pull away from Navy (4-11, 0-2).
Scott Long scored 14 points to lead Navy, which has now lost four straight and has lost all six of its road games this season.
Last season the Midshipmen lost in overtime at American and have gone 5-19 since that loss, including losses to Belmont and Division III Johns Hopkins this season.
The Eagles opened the game on a 14-4 run, but Navy switched to a zone defense that slowed American's scoring. The Eagles still hit six first-half 3-pointers, three by Stokes, to take a 30-24 halftime lead.
