No. 18 AU Victorious in Come-From-Behind Win Over Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. - Sophomore Charlie Koniver found the back of the net for the first time this season for the No. 18 American University men's soccer team - an unassisted game-winner no less - as the Eagles defeated Lafayette 2-1 Saturday night.

Trailing 1-0 in the second half after Lafayette's Ted McHugh handled a pass from Paulo Coelho in the 49th minute for the brief 1-0 lead.

Accustomed to playing with pressure in second halves, AU's Peter Philipakos aimed a header past LC's keeper Mike Tortora at 66:50 to shatter the shutout and register with his fifth goal of 2002. Andrew Herman assisted on the play.

Tied 1-1, Koniver scored the eventual game-winner at 87:10 off a long, unassisted shot to put the game away.

American goalkeeper Mike Behonick made one save while Tortora recorded four for Lafayette.

AU dominated in corners by a 9-0 margin and kept the pressure on with eight shots to the Leopard's four.

The Eagles host Loyola on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 3 p.m. at Reeves Field.
