Lynchburg, Va.- Senior Ric Patiejunas (Vilnius, Lithuania) scored 15 points and led AU to a 73-49 victory over the Highlanders of Radford University. Senior Demek Adams (Washington, D.C./Archbishop Carroll) had a career-high six rebounds and was two-of-three from the field. Just as importantly, he tied his career assist mark with eight. Sophomore Jason Thomas (Herndon, Va./Notre Dame Prep) must like Radford, because he tied his career-high for scoring with nine points on four-of-five shooting, including a late dunk. As mentioned, his previous career outing was last year against Radford, when he went for nine points, two steals and two assists.
Senior Glenn Stokes (Silver Spring, Md./Tallahassee CC) had eight points in ten minutes while fellow senior Steven Miles (Alexandria, Va/Coastal Carolina) had eight points and four assists.
Sophomore Ryan Graham (St. John Brunswick, Canada/Brewster Academy) scored the first point of his collegiate career as did Jamaal Caterina (Portland, Me./Brewster Academy).
American was never in serious trouble after the first ten minutes of the game. They went into the half up twenty (37-17) and pushed the lead out early in the second half. They shot 51.9 percent from the floor (27-52) and had 21 assists on 27 made field goals. About the only area the Eagles were down in is free throw shooting, where AU managed just 10-of-20 from behind the stripe.
American (2-3) will not have much time to rest as they will play Howard University on December 9, 2002.
