West Point, N.Y. - American University's Natalie Rodovsky (Chappaqua, N.Y.) launched the Eagles into the Patriot League Championship game for the first time when she kicked in the winning goal versus Navy in the second overtime. The goal came at the 100:31 mark of the game and was assisted by freshman Marcela Ricupero (Monteserrin, Ecuador/Academia Cotopaxi) and junior Anabel Jimenez (Kensington, Md./Bullis). The goal itself was spectacular, as Rodovsky gathered in the pass, spun and booted it leftfooted from 12 yards out.
The score after 90 minutes was knotted at one apiece. The same score the two teams played too in the regular season (10-13-02; 1-1 final). Freshman Simone Konig (Gartringen, Germany/School of Economics in Boblingen) got things going early for American when she scored on a direct kick from 22 yards out. It was her third goal of the season and 30th point of the year as well. The goal came at the 6:02 mark. Konig took four of AU's 11 shots and three were on goal.
The score remained 1-0 AU for 65 minutes before Navy's Stacy Finley tied things up at one apiece. For the game Navy outshot the Eagles 29-12, but in overtime AU took the only two shots on goal.
Jen Liese (Rushland, Pa./Council Rock) faced 29 shots and picked up nine saves to earn her eighth win of the season.
The Eagles are now 9-8-2 and will play the winner of the Army-Colgate semifinal match on November 10th at1:00 pm at West Point, N.Y. For the second-seeded and previously unbeaten Navy, they finish at 16-1-4.
