Easton, Pa. - American University's Anabel Jimenez (Kensington, Md./Bullis) scored all three goals as the Eagles knocked off Patriot League foe Lafayette College. The game was played in the snow and sleet, but when Jimenez knocked in the gamewinner at the 79:00 minute mark, she guaranteed AU a place in the Patriot League playoffs beginning Nov. 8.
Jimenez tallied the winner from a pass by freshman Simone Konig (Gartringen, Germany/School of Economics in Boblingen). It was the 12th assist of the season for Konig, who broke the AU assist record when she recorded her 10th last week versus Howard.
For Jimenez it was her second game-winner of the week. She tallied the final goal in AU's 2-1 win over Bucknell. The scoring began when senior Megan Monteith (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) fed Jimenez for the first goal at 8:16. Junior Savannah Rennels (Rector, Pa./Latrobe Area/Bucknell) assisted Jimenez on the second goal. It gives Rennels 29 points on the year, the fifth best single season in AU history.
Jen Liese (Rushland, Pa./Council Rock) faced 13 shots and picked up eight saves in the match.
American (8-7-2/4-1-1) will play at Patriot League rival Army on November 2 at 7:00 p.m. The game will determine home site of the 2003 Patriot League Women's Soccer Championship.
