AU Men's Soccer Falls to Army, 1-0

WEST POINT, N.Y. - AU men's soccer team was defeated Tuesday night by Army in a Patriot League match, 1-0 in West Point, N.Y. Ryan Chang scored in the 81st minute for the Black Knights to give the host school the victory. The Eagles fall to 11-5-0 (3-2-0 PL) while Army moves to 3-8-3 (1-1-1 PL).

AU dominated the first half, firing seven shots to only four for Army. The Eagles held posession for most of the half with the Black Knights' shots coming mainly on the counterattack. Army goalkeeper Kevin Larrabee was forced to make five saves in the first half while Michael Behonick made two for the Eagles.

In the second half, American had an outstanding opportunity in the 58th minute as Peter Philipakos brought the ball into the box. His pass went past a diving Larrabee and towards Michael Grinsfelder. Grinsfelder's sliding shot was saved by an Army defender to end the danger.

Army then went on the counterattack, spending the next three minutes with posession in the AU box. However, neither team could find the net and the match remained scoreless.

In the 81st minute, Army had a throw in down near the corner taken by David Yu. Yu threw the ball into the box and it was flicked on by Todd Severson. Chang was there to send the ball into the left corner of the net and give Army the 1-0 lead.

American pressured Army over the final eight minutes, but was unable to get a solid opportunity as the Black Knights held on for the victory.

American returns to action on Saturday as the Eagles travel to Virginia for a 7:00 p.m. match.
