Eagles Top Bucknell, 5-1

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior Kris Bertsch scored two goals for American, and three other Eagles players tallied in the contest as visiting American handed Bucknell a 5-1 defeat in Patriot League action for BU's first home loss since the season-opener of the 2000 season.

Senior Adam Rosen wasted little time getting American the lead when he headed a cross into the net just 3:19 into the contest. Just over six minutes later, Bertsch struck with his first goal of the game on a shot from the right side, past diving goalkeeper Steve Whitaker. At the 24:02 mark of the opening frame, Bertsch capped the scoring for the half with his second tally, blasting the ball from 20 yards out to put the Eagles up 3-0.

The Bison did not get a chance to score in the first half as the American defense did its job and the team outshot Bucknell 9-0 in the stanza. The Eagles also held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks in the opening half.

AU freshman Shawn Kuykendall extended the visitor's lead to 4-0 when he tallied his second goal of the season just over eight minutes into the final half. Senior Jonathon Colton was credited with the assist. Less than two minutes later, freshman Andrew Herman netted his first career goal to make it 5-0. Bertsch and defender Bobby Brennan assisted on the play at the 59:30 mark of the game.

Despite outshooting American 6-4 in the second half and holding a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks in the frame, the Bison could only muster one goal to avoid the shutout. Freshman Alexander Far made the most of a Tom Ryan pass from 25 yards out, scored to make it 5-1 at the 83:09 mark.

American returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 14, when it travels to Worcester, Ma., for a 2:00 p.m. match at Holy Cross.
