RICHMOND, VA - American scored three unanswered goals in the second half to defeat Virginia Commonwealth, 3-1, Wednesday night in men's soccer action at Sports Backers Stadium.
VCU defender Gonzalo Segares gave the Rams a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute, knocking a header into the back of the net off a corner kick played by Gilberto Bejarano.
The lead held up until shortly after halftime, when AU's Adam Rosen took a pass in the box from Jonathon Colton, turned and fired toward the far post. His shot was touched by VCU goalkeeper Steve Ankiel but got past him to even the score.
The game stayed even until the 74th minute. Sean Albright took a long cross from Bob Brennan and headed it over Ankiel from eight yards out for a 2-1 lead. It was Albright's first career goal.
Just 39 seconds later, Andrew Herman made a long run into the box and scored from 10 yards out for the final score of the match.
The loss drops VCU to 7-7-2 on the season, while American improves to 7-7-1.
