Princeton, N.J. -- American women's soccer held their own against a nationally-ranked Princeton squad tonight, but fell 3-1 to the #19 Tigers. Senior forward Diane Wootton (Damascus, Md./Middle Tennessee State) scored the Eagles' lone goal.
The Eagles held Princeton to only one goal in the first half, scored at 23:01 by Joan Curdy. In the second, the Tigers turned up the heat and notched goals at 53:34 and 58:00, by Janine Willis and Krista Ariss, respectively.
Wootton found the back of the net for American at the 76:35 mark on an assist from junior Megan Monteith (Frediricksburg, Va./Chancellor). She is now tied with senior Katie Moore (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) as the team's leading scorer with six total goals.
The loss brings American to 6-6-3 overall, 3-2-1 in the Patriot League. The Eagles will host league foe Lehigh this Sunday, Nov. 4 at 1:00 p.m. in the team's final regular season game. With a win, American will cinch a spot in the Patriot League Championship on November 9-11.
