Towson, Md. -- The American women's soccer team topped the Towson Tigers this afernoon, 2-1, in overtime. Senior Ashley Flanigan (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury H.S.) scored the game winner midway through the first overtime period off an assist from freshman Amy Muller (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side H.S.) to give American the victory.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead at 7:45 into the game when sophomore defender Susan Coelius-Keplinger (St. Paul, Minn.) scored off a loose ball in the middle of the box. American retained the league until 13:36 remained in the game when Towson senior Maggie Lennon scored on a breakaway from the midfield.
Freshman keeper Jen Liese (Rushland, Pa./Council Rock) again proved invaluable to the Eagles. She made two outstanding saves with two minutes left in regulation to send the game into overtime.
American has won five of its last six games and moves to 5-2-0 overall, 2-0 Patriot League. On Saturday, Oct. 6, the Eagles will host Lafayette, their third Patriot League opponent of the season, at 1:00 p.m.
