Samantha Raso

Sam Raso first joined the American University Athletic Training staff in July of 2014, and was named the Assistant AD for Sports Medicine in September, 2022 after previously serving as the associate athletic trainer. In addition to heading up a staff of seven, Raso is primarily responsible for working with the women’s lacrosse and field hockey teams. Prior to the announcement of her new position, Raso had been serving in the role on an interim basis for three months.

Raso came to American from the University of Connecticut where she worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer. While there, she primarily covered the field hockey and women’s lacrosse teams. Along with that, she designed and implemented a corrective exercise team warm-up based on a movement and injury risk assessment.

Raso earned her bachelor's degree in athletic training from Northeastern University in 2011, and her master’s degree in kinesiology from the University of Connecticut in 2014. 

The summer in between her undergraduate and graduate years, Raso worked as an intern athletic trainer at Southern Methodist University where she was primarily responsible for the men’s and women’s tennis teams. In addition to that, she assisted in the coverage of football practices and games, and also designed and implemented rehabilitation protocols and treatments for athletes.
