Six years after her first stint in Athletics at American University, Katie Benoit returned to D.C. to take on the role of Associate AD for Student-Athlete Well-Being in July of 2022. In September of 2024, Benoit was promoted to Deputy Athletics Director, and she has also served as the department's Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) since 2023.

Benoit came back to AU after six years at Western Colorado University where she most recently served as Associate AD and SWA. As Associate AD for Internal Operations and Compliance/SWA at Western Colorado, Benoit oversaw all aspects of NCAA compliance and served as the sport supervisor for men’s and women’s cross country and track & field as well as women’s swimming and diving. She served on a number of committees within both the university and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
 
In her first three years at Western Colorado, Benoit served as the Associate AD for Development, a year and half as the Associate AD for Operations and Facilities and in October 2020 took a new role as the Associate AD for Internal Operations and Compliance.

In her time at Western, Benoit helped lead three of the highest grossing MAA Crab Feed efforts in history as well as the three highest grossing golf tournaments in Western history. Additionally, she started other development programs and activities with Western's teams while also overseeing the Mountaineer Athletic Association and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

In 2020, Benoit was selected for the 2020-21 NCAA Pathway Program - a program where senior-level administrators are selected by the NCAA leadership development office with the Board of Governors Committee to Promote Cultural Diversity and Equity with the goal of preparing them to attain positions as directors of athletics or conference commissioners.
 
In 2018, Benoit hosted Western's first ever National Women and Girls in Sports Day event featuring a free youth clinic and a panel of prominent sportswoman in the Gunnison Community.
 
Benoit arrived at Western after spending two years at American as the Assistant Director of Development from 2014-16. In her previous stint at AU, Benoit served as the primary contact for all athletics department alumni and special events. She was also responsible for the creation and distribution of athletics annual appeals, the processing of all athletics gifts, the creation of giving reports, and the solicitation of leadership level gifts. Along with various other duties, Benoit worked directly with coaches and sport administrators on sport-specific annual fundraising goals, and created and oversaw the online marketing plan for athletics development.
 
Prior to American, Benoit was the Assistant Director of Development, Special Events at Northeastern University in Boston for three years. There she served as the primary contact and leader of all athletic department alumni and special events, and assisted the Associate Director of the Annual Fund with the creation and distribution of annual appeals and processing gifts. Benoit also worked with coaches on alumni outreach and sport-specific development events.
 
While obtaining her master's degree in sports leadership from Northeastern University College of Professional Studies, Benoit served as the Sports Information/Marketing and Promotions Intern at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a Graduate Assistant for Athletics Operations at Northeastern University, and a Sports Information Graduate Assistant at Simmons College. She also served as the assistant lacrosse coach at Simmons College from 2011-14, and stepped into the head coach role briefly before transitioning to American University.
  
Benoit earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Rochester. Formerly Katie Congdon, she married Matthew Benoit in 2017. The couple have two children.
