Grace Coon finished her first season with AU lacrosse in 2026. She joined the program in July 2025, coming to AU after a two-year coaching stint at East Carolina and a standout playing career at the University of Connecticut.
Working primarily with the draw team, midfielders, and attackers, Coon played a pivotal role in Kellie Linehan’s production during the best season of her career. Transitioning from midfield to attack, Linehan reached career-highs in goals (35), assists (15), and draw controls (53), with a team-leading 50 points to earn a spot on the All-Patriot League Second Team. Coon also helped Reagan Murdoch solidify one of the best careers in program history. The senior captain finished with a team-leading 41 goals on the year under Coon’s guidance, totaling 128 in her career to place fourth in AU’s all-time record book. She was also an All-Patriot League Second Team selection.Â
In the draw control circle, Coon helped sophomore Lauren Appleby establish herself as AU’s draw specialist. The Eagles won 164 draw controls with her in the circle for the majority of the season, and she won 40 to herself.Â
Prior to American, Coon helped ECU reach unprecedented team and individual success. The Pirates had a historic 2025 campaign, posting their best-ever record in American Athletic Conference (AAC) play at 4-2. They earned their first-ever win over Temple, and pushed perennial NCAA tournament contender #11 James Madison to a one-goal game in the regular season finale. Working with the Pirates' draw team, midfield, and attackers, Coon played a key role in Kayla Wilkes' outstanding season that earned her ECU's first Midfielder of the Year award. Wilkes logged a career-high 60 draw controls, a team-leading number and fifth in the AAC.Â
In 2024, Coon coached one of the most accomplished players in ECU's history in Caroline Kimel. She helped the senior attacker navigate regular faceguarding throughout her final season, putting up 31 goals and 30 assists to land on the All-AAC First Team for a third time. She ended her career with program records in points, goals, and assists.Â
Coon is also a 2026 graduate of the IWLCA Aspire Program, a professional development initiative designed to provide assistant coaches with intensive, high-quality continuing education that supports their growth and long-term success in the profession.Â
A native of Marcellus, New York, Coon enjoyed a stellar playing career as an attacker at UConn. She was a three-time Second-Team All-Big East honoree, and was named to the IWLCA All-Region Second Team in 2021. She recorded 135 goals and over 150 points in her career in Storrs, and ranks second in program history in career shooting percentage.
