CJ Murphy

Cj Murphy has served as the Head Coach of the AU Cheer Team since 2021 and the Spirit Program Coordinator since 2024. She is responsible for coordinating fundraising efforts, recruitment, scheduling, managing appearances and travel, and the procurement of equipment and gear for the AU Spirit Program.  Along with these responsibilities, she is the liaison between the AU Spirit Program and Athletic Department.

In her role as head coach, Murphy runs and manages practices, game and tournament appearances, and the team’s annual competition at NCA College Nationals in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Before becoming head coach, Murphy was a member of the AU Cheer Team from 2011 to 2015, serving as Captain starting her sophomore year. In her time on the team, Murphy won the awards for Most Valuable Cheerleader, Most Valuable Teammate, and Rookie of the Year. She was also recognized at the University level, winning the Stafford H. Cassell Student Achievement Award and being named a finalist for the President’s Award. 

After graduating in 2015 with a degree in Communications, Law, Economics, and Government (CLEG), she volunteered with the AU Cheer Team from 2015 to 2021, assisting with alumni relations and choreography for the team’s appearances at College Nationals.

Murphy is a 2018 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law and works as an Assistant Counsel with the United States Senate Office of the Legislative Counsel.
