A native of Arlington, Va., Summer Matlack joined the American University staff in September 2023 as an Academic Counselor, supporting student-athletes in women's volleyball, women's soccer, men's wrestling, and men's & women's swim and dive.
Matlack earned her M.Ed. in Sport and Exercise Psychology from Springfield College in 2023. During her time there, she was a graduate mental performance coach, helping college and high school athletes develop mental performance skills to enhance both their athletic abilities and overall well-being. She worked with athletes from various sports, including women's volleyball, women’s lacrosse, women’s field hockey, boys' and girls' basketball, and high school football. During her time at Springfield College, Matlack also worked as a graduate fellow in the Physical Therapy Department at Springfield College, providing administrative support to faculty.
She completed her undergraduate studies at West Virginia Wesleyan College, earning a B.S. in Exercise Science in 2021. While at WVWC, she was a four-year member of the women's basketball team.
