Joe Henson returns as a member of Coach Cody’s staff aftertwo seasons as an assistant coach at Campbell University.
While at Campbell, Henson helped with the development of NCAAEast Region Champion Parker Burns who became the Camels first NCAAQualifier in seven seasons.
Henson was instrumental to the success of the American wrestlingprogram during his first tenure at American, and helped guide thedevelopment of four All-Americans.
As a collegian, Henson qualified for the NCAA Championships fourtimes while attending both the University of Pennsylvania and theUniversity of Nebraska. A 2001 graduate of Penn, Henson was atwo-time place-winner at the EIWA Championships. During the 2001tournament, he took third place and in his senior campaign Hensonnarrowly missed capturing a championship when he took second toJesse Jantzen of Harvard. For his performance and efforts duringhis senior year, Henson earned the Robert G. Allman MostInspirational Award.
Henson began his collegiate career at Nebraska where he letteredtwice and was also a two-time Nationals Qualifier. In his four yearcareer, Henson amassed over 100 wins.
Henson also earned Academic All-America twice. He graduated fromPennsylvania in 2001 with a bachelor of arts in psychology.
Prior to joining American’s staff, Henson was a coach atNew Oxford High School during the 2002-03 season.
