WASHINGTON — American University women's soccer head coach Anabel Hering has added Heather Sanden to the coaching staff for the 2016 season. Sanden will work with the goalkeepers after starting all four seasons and holding multiple career record, include shutouts in a season with five and total saves with 442 as a student-athlete at East Tennessee State.

"I'm very excited to have Heather on staff as our GK assistant coach," said Hering. "As a player she set and still holds NCAA records at East Tennessee State University and I know our GK's will learn a lot from her strong presence and knowledge of the game. Her positive attitude, competitiveness, and experiences at all levels as a coach makes her well-rounded and an asset to the team. We are really looking forward to her joining the AU family."

Sanden began her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Wingate University (2006-07) and Morehead State (2007-09).

Sanden is the owner of E3PT, a sports performance company that specializes in goalkeeping and nutrition. She is also the director of goalkeeping with the Great Falls Soccer Club and is the head coach of two U-11 squads.

Sanden graduated from East Tennessee State in 2005 with a degree in physical education with a concentration in exercise science. She obtained her masters in sports management from Morehead State in 2009.
