Robby McFarland was promoted to Assistant Athletics Director of Business Operations in the summer of 2025 after four years with AU Athletics. He first joined the American University Athletics staff as an Athletics Operations Manager in October, 2021, and changed roles to become the Business Office Assistant in July, 2023. 

McFarland came to AU from the University of Maryland, where he earned bachelor's degrees in finance and international business in May of 2021. While completing his studies, McFarland spent two years working with the Facilities, Operations and Events staff at Maryland. After graduation, he became a coordinator and was responsible for softball, field hockey and wrestling. He also spent two years as an umpire with the Independent Baseball Umpires Association.
