Lauren Werner

Lauren Werner joined the American University Athletic Training staff in July, 2021, and works primarily with the wrestling and men's cross country/track teams.

Werner came to AU after two years as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at UNC Pembroke, working with the wrestling team and the spirit squad. She served as a preceptor in the CAATE-accredited Athletic Training Education Program and as a mentor to first-year graduate assistant athletic trainers.
 
As an undergraduate at the University of Iowa, Werner gained plenty of experience with the sports medicine department. She worked with six teams at Iowa, including a stint with the football squad during its 2018 spring season. She underwent a pair of clinical experiences with the nationally-ranked wrestling team, including a full-season stint with the program in 2018-19.
 
In addition to her clinical work, Werner has also logged a wealth of volunteer experiences as well, including at the 202 USA Wrestling Senior Nationals, the 2019 US Marine Corps Junior Cadet Nationals, the 2019 US Open Wrestling Championships, the 2018 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships and the a 2016 NCAA Men’s & Women’s Cross Country regional meet. 
 
The 2018 recipient of Iowa’s Kevin Nels Negaard Award which is presented annually to a second-year athletic training student who shows the greatest promise in the profession, Werner also picked up the John J. Strief Award in 2017 for significant and consistent contributions to clinical services. She earned her bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Iowa in 2018, and master’s degree in sports administration at UNC Pembroke in 2021.
