Ryan Baker

  • Title
    Graduate Assistant Coach
Ryan Baker joined the American University swimming & diving staff as a graduate assistant coach prior to the 2023-24 season. He's a Washington, D.C. native who swam for Gonzaga College High School and was a Washington Post First Team All-Met selection.

Baker attended his first Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb. in 2016, competing in the 100 backstroke. He then headed to Charlottesville to attend the University of Virginia, where he was a four-year collegiate athlete, broke the 50 freestyle team record, and was on five record-setting relays. Baker accumulated 10 All-American honors and qualified for the 2020 Olympic Trials in three events. He also set the 18-24 Master's American Record in the 2-Mile Open Water cable swim.

Baker's career was cut short by the pandemic canceling the 2020 NCAA Championships and postponing the 2020 Olympic Trials, but he never lost his passion for competitive swimming. He is extremely excited to be working with the sprinters at AU, and to watch the team continue to shock the Patriot League.
