Sean Foster was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Performance in 2019 after six years with AU Athletics. He first joined the staff as the head strength & conditioning coach in August of 2013, and was elevated to Assistant AD/Strength & Conditioning in 2016.
In his role, Foster oversees strength & conditioning activities for varsity sports, and manages a staff of three coaches. He directly oversees the training of teams that have won 11 Patriot League titles in six years, with his current teams including men's basketball, women's basketball, volleyball, field hockey and men's soccer. In addition to his duties with the athletics department, Foster has served as an adjunct instructor with the department of Health Studies since 2016.
Foster had previously been with the Georgetown University Athletic Department, serving a year as an intern strength & conditioning coach and another three years as an assistant sports performance coach. He worked primarily with men's lacrosse, men's soccer, volleyball and men's and women's tennis, while assisting with both men's and women's basketball as well as football. Foster also oversaw the department's college-level internship program.
The Reston, Va., native is no stranger to D.C., returning to American University after stops at Episcopal High School, Gonzaga College High School and St. Stephen's & St. Agnes High School.
Foster received his master's degree in exercise science from American University in 2010, and was a 2008 graduate of The Ohio State University, holding a bachelor's of science in health sciences.
As a member of the CSCCa, NSCA and USA Weightlifting, Foster currently holds the certifications from the CSCCa, NSCA and USA Weightlifting.
Foster currently resides in D.C. with his wife Danielle, daughter Emilia and son Luca.
