Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO Dec. 31, 2007

Wrestling's Josh Glenn has been named the American University Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO, Department of Athletics and Recreation officials announced Monday. Glenn became AU wrestling's first Midlands Tournament Champion on Sunday, defeating Northwestern's Mike Tamillow, 14-9.

Glenn began his championship run at 197 lbs. on Saturday with a first round bye and tech-fall over A.J. Hunt from Pittsburgh just 4:37 into the match. In his first match on Sunday, Glenn defeated Northern Iowa's Andrew Anderson, 8-1. Glenn faced fourth-seeded T.J. Morrison from Rider in the semi-finals and won a close 2-0 decision to advance to the championship round.

Tamillow, the tournament's second seed and Glenn's finals opponent, won three matches earlier in the tournament including an 11-2 major decision in his first match and an 8-6 decision against third-seeded Wynn Michalak of Central Michigan in the semis. Tamillow could not continue his winning ways against Glenn though, as the defending National Champion won a 14-9 decision to capture the 197 lbs. Midlands Championship.

The 45th annual Midlands Tournament, held at Northwestern University, is regarded as one of the most prestigious wrestling events of the year and regularly draws some of the best competition from around the country. Glenn's Midlands Championship is the first in AU wrestling history.
