Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO Dec. 8, 2008

Sophomore Dorothy Isaacs has been named the American University Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO, Department of Athletics and Recreation officials announced Tuesday. Isaacs competed for the first time in her career at the ConocoPhillips Short Course National Championships last week and set two school records.

In her first event of the weekend, Isaacs posted a 23.70 in the 50 free preliminaries, breaking her own school record in the event of 23.79. Her time placed her for 63rd overall in the heat. On Friday Isaacs returned to the pool for the 100 breast preliminaries where she posted a 1:03.22, just under her personal best of 1:03.00 set one week earlier. Her time placed her 18th in the heat and allowed her to advance to the "C" Final. In her final heat, Isaacs swam a 1:03.69 and placed 20th overall. Isaacs finished her weekend off by setting a second school record, this time in the 100 free. She swam a 51.25 in the preliminary heat to place 54th and broke the previous school record of 51.26 that had stood for nine years.
