Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO Nov. 19, 2007

After being named the Patriot League Volleyball Tournament MVP and helping her team to its seventh-consecutive PL Tournament Championship, Christina Nash has been named the American University Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO, Department of Athletics and Recreation officials announced Monday.

Nash directed her American squad to its seventh straight PL Tournament title with wins over Navy and Colgate. Against the Midshipmen, Nash dished out a match-high 37 assists, scored eight kills and recorded a .438 hitting percentage. On the defensive side of the net she was credited with three block assists and also dug three balls. Against the Raiders in the tournament finale, the junior connected on 44 passes and guided the Eagles to a team hitting percentage of .435. Nash also notched four kills in the championship match, four digs and one ace. For the tournament, Nash recorded 81 assists, 12 kills, seven digs, three blocks, hit .423 and helped AU to a team hitting percentage of .322.

The Eagles PL Championship secures them a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The team will find out its fate of who, when and where it will play this Sunday, Nov. 25, when the tournament brackets are revealed live on ESPNU at 8 p.m. during the selection show.
