Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO Oct. 22, 2007

Field hockey defender Denise Infante has been named the American University Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO, AU Athletics officials announced Monday.

As a defender, Denise scored two goals in AU's 4-3 OT win over Towson, including the game-winner in overtime. She also led all players with 11 shots. In American's next game of the week, Infante led the Eagles to a 6-1 victory over the Mountain Hawks of Lehigh, registering a season-high six points in the game. Infante started the scoring off with a goal in the second minute of action and recorded four assists, matching American's individual single game record. The senior also helped anchor a defense that held Patriot League opponent Lehigh to just three shots on goal and no chances off of penalty corners. In just over eighty minutes of action against the Tigers, the Eagles allowed 10 shots, but only three in the second half and one in overtime, compared to AU's own 22.

Combining 31 points this season with her previous 67 career points, Infante now ranks sixth on American University's All-Time Career Point List. She leads the team in goals and assists this season with 10 goals and 11 assists, respectively.
