Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO Sept. 10, 2007

American University women's soccer player Krystn Hodge (Rye, N.Y./Mamaroneck) has been named the American University Student-Athlete of the Week presented by Geico, the AU Department of Athletics and Recreation announced Monday.

In the Niagara Fall Classic, Hodge scored the game-winning goals in American's 2-1 win over Niagara and in the Eagles' 3- 0 win over Buffalo. In the first game of the tournament, Rookie defender Friederike Engel (Hamburg, Germany/Freie Und Hansestadt Hamberg) led Hodge on a through ball, creating space for the dynamic forward to beat Purple Eagle keeper Sarah Stephens one on one, leading AU to a 1-0 win. Against Buffalo, Hodge had a clear look at goal after shielding the ball and turning her defender at the top of the box, scoring her fourth goal of the season and giving AU an early 1-0 advantage. For her performance, Hodge was one of five Eagles named to the Niagara Fall Classic All-Tournament team.

The Eagles are now 4-0 on the season and Hodge is second on the team in points with eight, coming off four goals. She has scored in every game so far this season.
