Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO Sept. 4, 2007

American University field hockey player Denise Infante (Santiago, Chile/Santiago College) has been named the American University Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO, the AU Department of Athletics and Recreation announced Monday.

Infante was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight round of awards and for the fourth time in her career. Infante anchored a defense that allowed just five shots on goal in two games. No.12 American University defeated Virginia Commonwealth, 1-0, in overtime with Infante netting the game-winning goal with just over four minutes remaining in the first sudden victory period. The Eagles wrapped up their weekend with a 3-2 victory over Princeton, who was ranked 18th at the time. With 39 seconds left on the clock, Infante converted on a scramble in front of the Tiger goal to break the 2-2 tie and end the game in regulation. The Santiago, Chile, native leads the 2007 squad in points with 14, combining six goals with two assists. She currently sits in seventh place amongst American University's all-time career point leaders with 81 points.
