Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO May 5, 2008

Junior Carlos Jamieson has been named the American University Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO, Department of Athletics and Recreation officials announced Monday. Jamieson set a new meet record in the 1500 meter run Saturday on Day Two of the 2008 Patriot League Track and Field Championships and also anchored the first place men's 4x800 meter relay team on Friday.

Jamieson moved from third to first in the final 200 meters of the men's 1500 to win his first individual PL Outdoor Championship, finishing in a new meet record time of 3:43.24. Jamieson also eclipsed the NCAA East Regional qualifying standard with the win and moved from fifth to third on AU's all-time top 10. The previous meet record of 3:44.97 was set by former Eagle Sean Duffy in 2005.

Jamieson returned to the track once more on Saturday and scored again for AU in the 800 meter run. Jamieson finished sixth in the event in 1:52.25.

On Friday, Jamieson anchored AU's 4x800 relay team which came in first for the seventh straight year at the PL Championships. Jamieson teamed with Brendan Fennell, Steve Hallinan and Conor Sullivan to finish the race in 7:29.49, the third fastest time in school history.

This is the second time this year that Jamieson has been named the AU Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO. Jamieson was previously honored with the award after winning the 3000 and 5000 meter races at the PL Indoor Track and Field Championships.
