Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO June 1, 2009

Senior lacrosse student-athlete Leslie Fischer has been named the American University Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO, Department of Athletics officials announced Monday. Fischer netted a team-high three goals on three total shots in the Eagles' 16-12 loss to Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon, and was named to the All-Patriot League Second Team earlier this week.

Fischer's first goal of the game came just 27 seconds in, giving American an early 1-0 lead. The Crusaders pulled ahead after a free position goal by senior Kira Sonberg but AU managed to hang on through the half, thanks to two Fischer goals and a final goal by junior Amanda Makoid. All three of Fischer's goals were unassisted. Fischer also recorded one caused turnover in the game.

Fischer led the Eagles with 31 points this season, scoring a career-high 27 goals and four assists. She recorded a career-high nine caused turnovers, matched her career-high with 11 draw controls and picked up 11 ground balls. Fischer recorded 10 games with multiple points, including scoring a season-high three goals against Virginia Tech, Richmond and Holy Cross.
