Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO March 17, 2008

For the fourth time this year, men's basketball's Garrison Carr has been named the American University Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO, Department of Athletics and Recreation officials announced Monday. Carr has earned the award after leading AU to its first NCAA Div. I Tournament appearance with a 52-46 win over Colgate Friday evening in the Patriot League Championship Game.

Carr led all scorers in the game with 17 points on six of 16 shooting. Three of Carr's makes came from behind the three-point line where he has now made an AU and PL record 129 threes this season. Carr also led the Eagles in rebounding with five, including two offensive, and played a full 40 minutes for the 10th time this season.

In a back-and-forth battle that saw AU and Colgate locked in a tie score eight times it was AU who came out on top. Trailing 45-46 with 2:24 on the clock, AU scored the games next seven points to take the victory. With the win, AU earned its first-ever berth into the NCAA Div. American is now preparing to face Tennessee in the East Region's 2-15 matchup on Friday, March 21, at 12:15 p.m. The Eagles and Volunteers will play in Birmingham, Ala., at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Center.
