| After capping off their respective seasons with wins on
Saturday and clinching their respective Patriot League Regular
Season Championships, both the men's and women's basketball teams
have been named the American University Student-Athletes of the
Week presented by GEICO, Department of Athletics and Recreation
officials announced Monday.
The men's team entered play on Wednesday at Navy with a one game
lead over the Mids in the conference standings with just two games
to play. The Eagles were unable to pull off the road win though and
dropped the game, 83-68, moving them into a tie for first with Navy
with just one conference game remaining. As the winner of both
their meetings this year, Navy held the tie break advantage between
the two and AU needed both a win at home over Lafayette on Saturday
and a Midshipmen loss at Colgate to win the conference outright.
American did its part led by a career-high 19 points from Bryce
Simon and dispatched Lafayette, 84-72. American also received help
from the Raiders who sent Navy away with a 73-62 loss, giving the
Eagles an outright lead in the conference standings and the first
seed in this week's PL Tournament. To read a full recap of

The AU women went 2-0 on the week, defeating Navy and Lafayette,
to give the Eagles their first-ever regular season conference
championship and extend its winning streak to 10 games. AU took a
69-37 win over Navy on Wednesday and turned around to take a 60-57
overtime win at Lafayette on Saturday. The Eagles have won their
last seven on the road, which is the longest streak in American's
program history. Their 10 straight wins ties the AU record for
consecutive wins set during the 1997-98 season. To read a full
