Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO Feb. 25, 2008

Indoor tracks Carlos Jamieson has been named the American University Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO, Department of Athletics and Recreation officials announced Monday. Jamieson won two titles at last weeks Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships to headline a group of eight All-PL selections for AU.

Jamieson competed in both the 3000 and 5000 meter runs at the PL Championships. On Friday, Jamieson entered the 5000 meter as the second seed with a season best time of 14:42.84. Jamieson blew away that seed time in the championships race, winning in 14:29.82 and finishing three-plus seconds in front of top seeded Jonathon Anderson of Army. Jamieson's win in the 5000 meter earned him the first PL Championship of his career.

Jamieson returned to the track on Sunday in the 3000 meter run, this time seeded fifth with a season best 8:22.62. Just as he did the previous day, Jamieson ran much faster than his seed time and won his second PL Championship in as many days with a time of 8:16.68 and a two-plus second margin. Jamieson's time in the 3000 meter not only won him the championship but also put him at seventh place on AU's all-time top-10 list.

With his two victories, Jamieson also earned two First Team All-PL honors, highlighting a group of eight AU runners to be named to either the first or second team.
