American University wrestling student-athlete Esteban Gomez-Rivera has been named
the AU Student-Athlete of the Week Presented by GEICO, Department
of Athletics officials announced Tuesday.
Gomez-Rivera was one of two Eagles’ grapplers to go
undefeated over the weekend. The sophomore opened Sunday with a 5-3
decision over North Carolina State’s Chris Wilkes and then
defeated Tyler Goodwin of Maryland in a 7-4 decision later that
night in College Park, Md.
The wins were the Miami, Fla. native’s 19th and 20th of
the season, making him the second American wrestler this season to
eclipse the 20-win mark. He has tallied four major decisions and
two falls on the year for the Eagles.
Gomez-Rivera and American will close out its dual schedule on
Saturday, Mar. 1 at Oklahoma State.
