American University redshirt junior wrestler Mark Cirello was recognized as the AU
Student-Athlete of the Week Presented by GEICO, Department of
Athletics officials announced Tuesday.
Cirello picked up a 2-1 decision in the final bout of the day to
secure a 21-19 win for the Eagles in its dual at Binghamton on
Saturday. Cirello trailed Joe Bonaldi, 1-0, heading into the second
period and was able to get the escape to tie it up. The Paramus,
N.J. native started on top in the third and was able to ride
Bonaldi out for the 2-1 win to give American its fourth EIWA
victory of the season
The win was Cirello’s third consecutive, advancing his
record to 14-9 with two major decisions, two falls and a technical
fall.
The Eagles return to the mat when they head to Lewisburg, Pa. to
face Bucknell on Friday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m.
