American University field hockey senior student-athlete Shelly Montgomery has been named the
AU Student-Athlete of the Week Presented by GEICO, Department of
Athletics officials announced.
Montgomery scored the first two goals in Saturday’s
Patriot League Championship game and helped the Eagles shutout
Boston U. on its way to its ninth conference title. The Fairfax,
Va. native put American up 1-0 in the 31st minute with a goal off a
penalty corner and tallied her second on another penalty corner
three minutes later, redirecting a pass from Grace
Wilson past the Terriers’ goalkeeper. She also
added an assist on the Eagles’ overtime game-winner in its
Patriot League Semifinal contest against Lafayette.
Following the Championship game on Saturday Montgomery was
recognized as the Tournament MVP. She was also named the Patriot
League Offensive Player of the Year, All-Patriot League First Team
and Academic All-Patriot League last week.
Montgomery ranks second on the team with 20 points this season,
notching eight goals and four assists. The senior is also 10th in
program history with 89 career points and ninth with 38 career
goals.
Montgomery and the Eagles will host MAAC Champion Quinnipiac at
Jacobs Field in an NCAA Play-in Game on Wednesday, November 13 at 1
p.m.
