Montgomery Honored as AU Student-Athlete of the Week Presented by GEICO

American University field hockey senior student-athlete Shelly Montgomery has been named the AU Student-Athlete of the Week Presented by GEICO, Department of Athletics officials announced.

Montgomery scored the first two goals in Saturday’s Patriot League Championship game and helped the Eagles shutout Boston U. on its way to its ninth conference title. The Fairfax, Va. native put American up 1-0 in the 31st minute with a goal off a penalty corner and tallied her second on another penalty corner three minutes later, redirecting a pass from Grace Wilson past the Terriers’ goalkeeper. She also added an assist on the Eagles’ overtime game-winner in its Patriot League Semifinal contest against Lafayette.

Following the Championship game on Saturday Montgomery was recognized as the Tournament MVP. She was also named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year, All-Patriot League First Team and Academic All-Patriot League last week.

Montgomery ranks second on the team with 20 points this season, notching eight goals and four assists. The senior is also 10th in program history with 89 career points and ninth with 38 career goals.

Montgomery and the Eagles will host MAAC Champion Quinnipiac at Jacobs Field in an NCAA Play-in Game on Wednesday, November 13 at 1 p.m.
