American University women’s soccer continues to roll in
Patriot League play, improving to 3-0-0 on the season, and now have
been honored with a weekly conference honor. Junior Charlene Belanger was named the BRINE Patriot
League Goalkeeper of the Week, her second consecutive accolade and
third this season, while also being honored as the AU
Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by GEICO.
“Charlene has been really composed and in a real groove
for us,” said head coach Anabel Jimenez Hering. “She has
been confident in net and done a great job organizing the back
line; being a true leader out there.”
Belanger has been locked in as of late, posting her
third-straight Patriot League shutout of the season with seven
saves in a 3-0 win against Bucknell. She improved to 4-4-0 on the
year with a 0.84 goals against average, 48 total saves and .873
save percentage this season. Belanger is now 3-0-0 in her past four
games, allowing no goals over 305:01 minutes, while making 18 saves
and registering three shutouts.
It will be a battle of the unbeatens and a contest deciding sole
possession of first place in the Patriot League on Tuesday
afternoon, October 8, at Reeves Field, as the Eagles host Navy at
3:30 p.m.
