After American University men’s soccer’s victory
over Lehigh in its Patriot League opener, senior
co-captain Billy
Knutsen was named the BRINE
Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week, as well as the AU
Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by GEICO.
Knutsen has been locked in as of late as he posted his third
shutout in his past four games, making seven saves against the
Mountain Hawks. He has now allowed just one goal in the last 360
minutes between the posts. Knutsen has played every minute of every
match this season, totaling 33 saves, while allowing just seven
goals and posting 0.83 goals against average and a .825 save
percentage.
"This is honor that Billy really deserves," said head coach
Todd West. "He has played extremely well with
three shutous in his last four games, and very nearly
four-for-four. The back four in front of him has also played strong
games and Billy has done a great job of controlling the box."
Saturday was a special day in DC as AU celebrated its annual
“Phil Reeves Day” drawing a crowd of almost 700, while
also honoring its alumni, specifically the 1978 & 1979 NCAA
Tournament teams with a halftime presentation as well as a pregame
recognition of “Kuykenstrong Day” for former standout
and assistant coach Shawn Kuykendall ’05, who is battling
thymic cancer.
The Eagles have a busy week, hosting No. 12 Georgetown, Tuesday,
October 1, at 3 p.m., before hitting the road this weekend,
traveling to Holy Cross on Saturday, October 5, at 7 p.m.
