American University wrestling senior Kevin Tao has been named the AU
Student-Athlete of the Week Presented by GEICO, Department of
Athletics officials announced.
Tao posted one of the best upsets of the 2013 NCAA Wrestling
Championships last week in Des Moines, Iowa. The Kent, Wash. native
opened his tournament run with a 3-1 tiebreaker decision over
third-ranked Donald Vinson of Binghamton and advanced to the
quarterfinals with a 9-3 decision over Navy’s Raymond Borja.
The senior dropped his final two matches of the tournament by a
total of three points and was one win shy of All-America
status.
Tao finished his career with a record of 63-46 and two NCAA
Championship appearances. He earned a record of 26-15 this
year.
