Junior Bobby Ballance has been recognized as
the AU Student-Athlete of the Week, Presented by GEICO after
helping lead the American University men’s swimming &
diving team to a fifth-place finish at the 2013 Patriot League
Championships this past weekend.
Ballance was one of two Eagle men to earn medals at the
championships, placing third overall in the 100 backstroke to earn
the bronze, completing the race 49.68 seconds.
He followed it up with a fourth-place finish in the 200 back at
149.33, coming in just over a second behind teammate Matt Wurm, who grabbed the other
Eagles’ medal.
The third-year swimmer was also part of the 800 freestyle relay
team that placed fifth overall to earn the Eagles 28 team points,
finishing in 6:51.60, more than 10 seconds faster than their seeded
time.
Ballance also put up one of AU's top performances on day one of
the three-day event with a seventh-place finish in the 200
individual medley, touching the wall in 1:52.80 for 12 team
