American University men’s basketball racked up its first
Patriot League weekly honors of the season on Monday as the Eagles
swept the conference awards with sophomore John Schoof garnering Player of the Week
recognition while freshman Jesse Reed was named the Rookie of the Week as
well as the AU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by GEICO.
In American’s 70-55 win over Colgate on Saturday at Bender
Arena, Schoof was locked in, scoring 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting.
The second-year sharpshooter knocked down 5-of-8 from long range
and continues to lead the Patriot League in 3-point percentage
(.509) and treys per game (2.4).
Schoof, who was a two-time Patriot League Rookie of the Week
last season, earns his first ever conference Player of the Week
honor.
Reed played a key part in getting the Eagles back to .500 (4-4)
in Patriot League play. As AU’s “Sixth-Man,” he
was one of five players to score in double-figures, finishing with
10 points. He also added five rebounds and two 3-pointers. His two
shots from downtown tied a career high, while his three offensive
boards were also a career best mark.
This is the first time Reed has been tabbed as the Patriot
League Rookie of the Week and AU Student-Athlete of the Week.
The Eagles have a midweek, road matchup with Lehigh on
Wednesday, February 13, at 7 p.m., before returning to Bender Arena
next Sunday, February 17, for American's second-to-last home game.
AU will take on Holy Cross at noon in a game aired live on the CBS
Sports Network. Tickets are still available to this game and to all
AU home games by clicking
