American University indoor track senior Mark Allen has been recognized as the
AU Student-Athlete of the Week Presented by GEICO after registering
the second-fastest time in program history in the 5,000 meter run
over the weekend.
Allen placed second in the 5,000 meter run championship at the
New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York, N.Y., and was just
three seconds behind the top finisher from Clemson. The Miami, Fla.
native also bested his personal record by over 15 seconds and his
mark is the top in the Patriot League and the Mid-Atlantic Region
this season. Allen also became one of the first two American
runners to post an IC4A qualifying mark this year at the event.
Allen and the Eagles will head to West Point, N.Y. for the 2013
Patriot League Indoor Championships from February 15-17.
