American University wrestler Blake Herrin has been recognized as
the AU Student-Athlete of the Week Presented by GEICO after
finishing with a perfect 3-0 record in American’s dual meets
over the weekend, Department of Athletics officials announced
Monday.
Herrin remains undefeated in dual meets (6-0) at heavyweight and
leads the Eagles with a 17-5 record this season. The Huntsville,
Ala. native opened the weekend with a 12-5 decision over
Harvard’s David Ng on Friday. He then registered back-to-back
decisions against Stanford’s Dan Scherer, 3-2, and
Lehigh’s Jack Delia, 4-2, in Sunday’s
double-header.
The redshirt junior has a career record of 45-24, with a 10-5
mark in dual meets. Herrin won American’s lone tournament
title of the season, opening the year winning the
Brockport/Oklahoma Invitational. He also placed third at the
Keystone Classic.
Herrin and the Eagles return to action on Friday, January 18 at
7 p.m. when they face North Carolina State.
