Stephen Lumpkins was named the
AU Student-Athlete of the Week Present by GEICO, Department of
Athletics officials announced on Monday. Lumpkins, the men’s
basketball team’s leading scorer and rebound joined a
distinguished group this past week, scoring his 1,000th career
point.
The senior forward led the team in with 17 points in a tough
road loss to FAU on Saturday, November 24, in Boca Raton, Fla., but
his scoring total pushed him to 1,007 career points, making him
just the 28th player in program history to reach the 1,000 point
plateau. His 633 career rebounds rank 18th all-time at
American.
Lumpkins, who missed the entire 2011-12 season after being
drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 13th round of the 2011 MLB
draft, returned to the court this season and has not missed a beat.
Through five games, he leads the team with 15.8 ppg and 7.2 rpg. He
also paces all Patriot League players in field goal percentage
(.600), shooting 27-of-45 from the field.
The Eagles are in action this Wednesday, November 28, when they
travel to Philadelphia, Pa., at 7 p.m., to take on the Saint
Joseph’s Hawks. The Squad returns to Bender Arena on
Saturday, December 1, at Noon, when they take on the St. Francis
(Pa.) Red Flash.
