American University women’s soccer junior midfielder Shaena Alfonsi has been named the AU
Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO, Department of
Athletics officials announced Monday.
Alfonsi notched the game-winning goal with 28 seconds left to
play in regulation for a 2-1 victory over Howard on Friday
afternoon. The win was the first for the Eagles at Reeves Field
this season and snapped a four-game losing streak. The goal was the
Pittsfield, Mass. native’s first of the season and third of
her career.
Alfonsi and the Eagles will return to action tomorrow, Tuesday,
September 18 when they take on George Washington at its Mount
Vernon Field at 4 p.m.
